Westwood Families and Community -
Starting now, we are adding a new strategy to our school-wide attendance plan. That strategy is called "Surprise Attendance Days". Promoting regular attendance (missing 2 days or less per month), is one of our three major goals for the year ahead.
One day each month, students who are at school will be surprised with a special activity or treat. Students will track how many surprise days they are a part of as the year goes on. We are excited to have a lot of fun with this.
We will also have monthly goals for students to reach. Each month, students who reach the attendance goal will be rewarded with an attendance party or activity.
Part of our attendance plan will also soon include partnering with you. If we notice a trend of students missing ten days or more of school, we will reach out to schedule a meeting and discuss ways in which we can partner together to ensure your student is meeting the regular attendance benchmarks.
We hope to make this a fun and supportive school-wide attendance program. Right now, 77% of our students have "regular attendance". That is 363 of our students! That is amazing. However, this is lower than our surrounding schools and lower than our goal of 89%. The top three reasons students missed school last month include illness, vacation, and being out of the country.
Thank you to all for making school attendance a priority. It is a well-researched fact that when students attend school regularly, their success in school goes way up.
Thank you Westwood community!
Sincerely,
Scott Meyer, Principal
