February, 2020

Westwood Families and Community - Welcome back from mid-winter break! We are excited that our students have returned and that we have a nice stretch of school and learning ahead of us. Below are updates about upcoming events and ways you can support Westwood! Thank you for being involved and engaged in our school and your child's education!

Yearbooks on Sale Now - It is time to order yearbooks! Online orders will be our main way to purchase this year. We will not have many physical copies for sale in June. To order a yearbook, follow this link: https://commpe.pictavo.com/shop

Kindergarten Orientation - If you have a child who will be five years old by August 31, join us for Kindergarten Orientation on March 26 at 6 PM. Students will meet their future teachers, participate in a fun activity and have the option to ride a bus. Parents will be able to hear about the vision of our school and ask questions.

PTO Board Need - Westwood has an involved Parent and Teacher Organization that supports the growth and enrichment for all kids. Next year, we will be in need of volunteers for our board positions. Please consider being a part of our PTO board to help support and enrich all that we do. For more information, please email westwoodptoboard@gmail.com.

NED Assembly & Selling Yoyos - The NED show is coming to Westwood. This is an assembly with a great message about never giving up, encouraging others and doing your best. Part of the assembly uses YOYOs to entertain students. In order to get this assembly for free, we are asked to sell YOYOs at recess. We are looking for parent volunteers to sell yoyos at lunch recess (12:10 -1). If you can help, please follow this link to sign up. Jazzing Up Education Luncheon - The Enumclaw Schools Foundation (ESF) supports Enumclaw schools through funding enriching programs and activities. This year, all third through fifth grade students attended a play at the high school and all kindergarten through second grade students will be treated to a play in May at Westwood. This is funded by ESF. The annual ESF luncheon and fundraiser is March 3, 11:30 am at the Field House. If you are interested in hearing more about ESF and want to sit at our Westwood table, you can reserve your spot here: https://forms.gle/jQVvdSZjdM56HTZf6

Attendance Partnership - Positive school attendance is directly connected to school success. If at all possible, we want our students at school. Washington State outlines positive school attendance as 0-9 absences per year. The average attendance for Westwood students falls in this category. To encourage school attendance, students will now be able to earn charms on a monthly basis to put on a lanyard. To earn a charm, students need to be at school and on time for the entire month. Help us as we celebrate and encourage school attendance. Through a shared partnership between the school and home, we can ensure that students are attending and learning. Thank you!

Nominate a Westwood Teacher for Washington Teacher of the Year - Westwood teachers are the best! They love kids and work hard. Consider nominating a teacher for, "Teacher of the Year" in Washington: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5412157/2021-Teacher-of-the-Year-Nomination

Be the "i" in Kind - During the month of February we have a school-wide campaign called, "Be the i in Kind". Students are encouraged to complete random acts of kindness and to nominate others for their kindness. Students are then highlighted on morning announcements and called down to the office! Westwood students do an amazing job at being kind!
