School Profile

Westwood Elementary building

Welcome to Westwood Elementary, home of the Cougars. Westwood is a community of over 400 students and over 50 staff members dedicated to learning and growth. Our mission is to ensure the equity of all students achieving at high levels. Our school serves students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade, including one Independent Learning Center.

At Westwood, we know we have a job to do! That is to grow and learn. Through the lens of a growth mindset, we approach learning with grit and perseverance. Not only are we striving to grow academically but also socially, behaviorally, and as citizens.

To ensure high levels of learning and a strong academic program, teachers meet on a weekly basis in Professional Learning Communities. Through this collaboration, teachers focus on the needs of the individual student. Teachers use the collective power of a team to plan and implement interventions and enrichment for our students.

Through our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program, we intentionally teach students to be safe, respectful, and responsible. We recognize positive behaviors through a variety of ways, including our PAWsitive office referral system, Cougar Cash, and Golden Awards.

Westwood is committed to a strong partnership between our school and community. Through our Parent Teacher Organization, family nights, teacher communication, and parent volunteers, we welcome a relationship for the benefit of our students.

Thank you for your interest in Westwood Elementary. We are a school that loves our students and strives to equip them with the skills necessary to succeed.

We welcome your open and honest feedback. Feedback is accepted face-to-face, written, or electronically. Please send written and electronic information to the school building’s main office or the District office. We also offer a variety of committees that parents and citizens can participate in.

Program Highlights

To create a well rounded learning experience for our students, we offer several programs and opportunities to engage kids in a variety of different ways.  To encourage student leadership, Westwood’s Associated Student Body gives voice and input on the decision-making process. Other opportunities include: Rubik’s Cube club, Spanish club, volleyball, peer mentoring and running club.  Additionally, Westwood has a thriving Green Team and has been recognized as a Level Four Sustaining Green School from King County. Our students are trained to carry out environmentally friendly habits that reduce our consumption of waste and energy. In addition, our qualifying students receive services through the District-wide Highly Capable program.

Learning Spaces and Features

Westwood is committed to incorporating technology as a way to engage students in relevant learning.  We have a media lab, and each student has a Chromebook to engage in blended learning throughout the day at a 1:1 ratio.  In addition, each classroom is equipped with a Promethean board and projector that allows for interactive learning and expands our teaching beyond the classroom walls.

Westwood is located on the northwest outskirts of Enumclaw in a beautiful rural setting.  Our campus consists of three main buildings and a gymnasium. Recent renovations have rejuvenated our original building which was constructed in 1964.  We currently have 19 homerooms with additional rooms for small group learning.
