Welcome and thank you for visiting the Westwood webpage. Westwood Elementary is a school dedicated to learning and growing. Westwood serves approximately three hundred twenty one students, ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Our lens from which we work is to love our students and equip them with the skills necessary to succeed in life. The skills include a strong academic foundation, social/emotional development and citizenship attributes that are necessary in the twenty-first century. Growth is the goal of each day.
At Westwood, we believe that all students have the ability to achieve and learn at high levels. We believe that within a safe and welcoming environment students can take risks and flourish. No matter the level or ability, our students are challenged through engaging lessons and learning meant to develop strong readers, mathematicians, scientists, writers and problem solvers. We strive to give each student what they need at the individual level through a tiered system of support.
The staff at Westwood is a team committed to their students. We have 12 homerooms, two Independent Learning Centers, a full-time counselor, literacy coach and multiple specialist teachers in physical education, music, library and technology. On a weekly basis, the staff meet within learning communities to collaborate, analyze data, learn together and grow as professionals. We engage in educational research and best practices in order to improve our program. Even though we are teachers, we know we must always take the perspective of a learner. Through our school improvement plan we have established goals based on the needs of our students that drive our professional development and adult learning.
Westwood is a school that relies on the support of our families, Parent Teacher Organization and community. We believe the strongest schools have the strongest communities. It is only through a strong partnership that we can best meet all of the needs of our students.
Westwood is a special place. The students, staff and families make it so. Thank you for your interest in our school. For more information, please feel free to contact myself or our school at any time.
Sincerely,
Scott Meyer
